Getting Around
Coastal Train Tickets
The Galle–Matara line is unreserved second and third class, so tickets are bought at the station window just before you ride. There's nothing to pre-book.
How Tickets Work
- Buy at the station window shortly before your train departs
- Second and third class are unreserved, so there are no seat assignments to book
- Fares are low enough that cost is rarely a factor in the decision
- Cash in rupees is the safe assumption at small stations
Want an Advance Booking Instead?
Reserved seating exists on some other Sri Lankan routes, but not on this local coastal stretch. If we find a trustworthy way to pre-book train travel that actually applies here, we'll add it to this page. Until then, the honest answer is to turn up and buy a ticket.
